  • 45 linear inches (22 x 14 x 9 in) including handles and wheels.
  • And it should comfortably fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.
  • The personal item should also be of the proper size so that it fits under the seat in front of you.
  • Your carry-on baggage allowance does not count these items as carry-ons: an umbrella, jacket, duty-free items, diaper bag, and assistive devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, strollers, crutches, etc.)

American Airlines checked baggage size and weight restriction:

  • The American Airlines checked baggage allowance varies and it depends upon where your flight is going. Is it transatlantic (Europe), transpacific (Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, New Zealand, India, and Oceania), or the Caribbeans? Make sure to learn all the different baggage allowances of your flight destination.
  • If you are flying to or from US domestic, Transatlantic, and Transpacific then you are permitted to 2 checked bags and you can make it up to 10 bags maximum
  • If you are flying to or from Central America, the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico then you are permitted to 2 checked bags and a maximum of 5 bags.

For Panama and Ecuador:

  • The first bag will be free unless you have a Basic Economy fare then it will cost you USD 30.0

For South America (except Colombia, Ecuador, and Guyana):

  • The first bag will be free unless you have a Basic Economy fare then it will cost you USD 45.0
  • The second bag will cost you USD 65.0
  • The third bag will be counted as excess baggage and will cost you USD 150.0
  • The fourth and each bag afterward will cost you USD 200.0

For Columbia:

  • The first bag will be free unless you have a Basic Economy fare then it will cost you USD 30.0
  • The second bag will cost you USD 55.0
  • The third bag will be counted as excess baggage and will cost you USD 150.0
  • The fourth and each bag afterward will cost you USD 200.0

For Transatlantic:

  • The first bag will be free unless you have a Basic Economy fare then it will cost you USD 75.0
  • The second bag will cost you USD 100.0
  • The third bag will be counted as excess baggage and will cost you USD 200.0
  • The fourth and each bag afterward will cost you USD 200.0

For Transpacific:

  • The first and second bags will be free
  • The third bag will be counted as excess baggage and will cost you USD 200.0
  • The fourth and each bag afterward will cost you USD 200.0

American Airlines Overweight Baggage:

  • According to the American Airlines baggage policy, if your bag weighs more than 50 pounds then it will be considered overweight and a certain fee is involved.
  • If it weighs from 51 to 70 pounds then you have to pay a fee of USD 100.0
  • If it weighs from 71 to 100 pounds then you must pay a fee of USD 200.0 and USD 450.0 (if traveling to/from Transpacific)
  • If it weighs more than 100 pounds, it will not be accepted by the airline.

American Airlines Oversized Baggage:

  • According to the American Airlines baggage policy, if your bag measures more than 62 linear inches then it will be considered oversized and a certain fee is involved.
  • If it measures from 63 to 125 linear inches then you have to pay a fee of USD 200.0 for the US domestic, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America (except Panama), and Transpacific. You must pay USD 150.0 for Panama, South America, and Transatlantic.
  • If it measures more than 125 linear inches, it will not be accepted by the airlines.
